About Us | Who We Are
Facts
- Although the synagogue is 100-years-old, the Mount Kisco Hebrew Congregation (MKHC) remains one of the best kept secrets in northern Westchester.
- All-embracing, the synagogue is traditional orthodox, and offers a special place to experience spirituality where everyone, regardless of their levels of observance, is made to feel welcome. Thanks largely to its “non-Orthodox approach to Orthodoxy,” it has attracted many unaffiliated, Reform and Conservative Jewish families.
- While other congregations in Westchester boast memberships of 500 families and upwards, the Mount Kisco Hebrew Congregation has all of 92 families. Members range from 30-something parents to 80-something great grandparents.
- The diversified congregation includes people from all walks of life – from medicine to show business, from business to education, from art to computers.
- The synagogue attracts members from throughout northern Westchester, even as far away as Poughkeepsie.
- The congregation is led by Rabbi Aaron Goldscheider (who is known to answer his phone 24-hours a day – except on the Sabbath!)
- There are Friday evening services, a Sabbath morning scholars’ corner, Sabbath services on Saturday and a Sunday morning minyan. In addition, there is a traditional Hebrew School, as well as LEV, a special program designed for children with learning difficulties, Talmud and Bible classes, programs for teens and a lecture series.
