Mount Kisco Eruv

It is with great joy and gratitude to Hashem that we announce that our Eruv in Mt. Kisco has been completed. An Eruv is a symbolic enclosure that surrounds the Jewish community so that it is considered as a single property, which enables carrying on the Sabbath within the Eruv.

This is a project that has taken a number of years to successfully complete, and we hope to continue to expand the Eruv in the coming months to include an even larger area around Mt. Kisco.

We have worked closely with two leading expert Rabbis who specialize in the laws and construction of Eruvin: Rabbi Channan Jacobson and Rabbi Yosef Gavriel Bechhofer (the author of an important work on the laws of Eruv, "The Contemporary Eruv, Eruvin in Modern Metropolitan Areas").

We are greatly indebted to the leadership of Dan Birenbaum, Heshy Wallach, Sol Gibbons, Jerry Linsner, Larry Horowitz, Peter Grunthal, and our President, David Pitkoff, for their vision and tireless effort in bringing an Eruv to our community. We also thank Andrew Penson and Steve Chernys for their financial support and dedication to making this Eruv a reality. A special thanks to Rabbi Reuven Kalisch from Nitra who shepherded the contruction and completion of the Eruv.

Mt. Kisco now joins other select communities in Westchester County, such as Scarsdale, New Rochelle, and White Plains, to offer this amenity to its Jewish population. A Jewish community successfully constructing an Eruv represents the kind of Jewish community that is committed to Halacha (Jewish Law) and to the meticulous observance of the Shabbat. An Eruv enhances the quality of life in a Jewish community and can also make a community more attractive to those considering relocating to a new community.

We have always had very high expectations as to what we can accomplish in our Jewish community at MKHC. We feel great pride today knowing that we have reached this significant milestone. May we continue to go "Michayil el chayil," from strength to strength, may we continue to build a community that brings to life the wisdom and teachings of the Torah.

With blessings of the Torah,

Rabbi Aaron Goldscheider and the Eruv Committee
